Aston Villa took on Nottingham Forest in the Championship yesterday, as two former European champions went head-to-head in the second tier for the first time.

It was an excellent game that sprung into life in the second half. Villa performed well but in the end had to make do with a 2-2 draw. Goals from Ross McCormack and Rudy Gestede had given Villa the lead after trailing to an excellent Apostolos Vellios strike. But a late equaliser from Henri Lansbury left Villa fans frustrated.

Despite the final result there were some massive positives to take from the game.

Jordan Ayew was incredible down the right-hand side and Gestede had an excellent impact off the bench.

There was also the debut of new signing Jonathan Kodjia.

The Ivory Coast international was playing his first game for Villa and was very unlucky not to get a debut goal.

The former Bristol City star saw two headers well saved by Forest goalie Vladimir Stojkovic – with one stop absolutely world-class.

However, there was plenty there for Aston Villa fans to be impressed with from their big signing and hope is high that he can be a big hit at Villa Park.

Here is how Aston Villa fans reacted to his performance…

Kodjia with a header just over. Would be well deserved if he could get our third and his debut goal. I’ll take a brick wall though now #avfc
