Joleon Lescott was on the wrong end of a Sunderland hammering.

Joleon Lescott may be smiling in the picture above, but his afternoon against Chelsea was not a happy occasion.

The Black Cats were hammered 5-1 at Stamford Bridge, playing like extras at a carefully orchestrated Chelsea party.

Lescott’s inclusion itself was almost a white flag from manager David Moyes from kick-off.

It was the centre-back’s first start for the club since signing as a free agent in January.

After a torrid time at Aston Villa last season, Lescott signed for AEK Athens but his time in Greece was short lived.

Sunderland handed him a contract mid-season but after one substitute appearance in February against Crystal Palace, he was not seen again, until yesterday.

While harsh to totally dismiss him on one performance against a possessed Chelsea side when he was clearly out of match practice, Lescott did not give a good account of himself.

His defending was shambolic for Pedro’s goal, and he failed to win a single tackle.

While his involvement was minimal, he has now been relegated twice in consecutive seasons.
