Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is reportedly wanted by Manchester United.

The transfer window always throws up bizarre transfer rumours, but Manchester United preparing a move for Aston Villa’s John McGinn seems like one of the stranger ones so far this summer.

The Sun claim that United want McGinn, but Villa would be demanding a £50million fee; a huge profit on the £2.75million Steve Bruce paid to sign him last summer.

McGinn was the heartbeat of the Villa midfield last season, becoming a fan favourite not just because of his relentless energy and work rate, but also because of his quality on the ball.

You only have to see his stunning volley against Sheffield Wednesday to understand the quality McGinn has, whilst he also scored the winning goal in the Championship playoff final to take Villa back to the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has become a star at Villa Park, but talk of a £50million move seems premature. It either seems like a bizarre rumour or something driven by an agent seeking a new deal.

If he impresses in the Premier League, then that kind of interest may well materialise, but for now, we’re not expecting to see McGinn donning a United shirt any time soon.

Still, Villa fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the rumour, with many writing the rumour off as agent talk or simply rubbish, with some feeling that Villa should do everything to keep the Scottish international.

Others feel that £50million would be profit too good to turn down having signed him for such a bargain fee last summer, but the general feeling is that Villa simply couldn’t replace McGinn’s influence, and shouldn’t sell such a key player after winning promotion.
