A number of Aston Villa fans were not happy with James Chester’s performance in the Second City derby.
Several Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to express some concern about James Chester after the centre-back’s performance in the Villans’ 4-2 win over Birmingham City on Sunday.
Dean Smith took the spoils in his first Second City derby as a manager in a pulsating game at Villa Park. It was the visitors who took the lead and then came desperately close to doubling their advantage during the first-half.
However, Villa responded to their reprieve superbly. Jonathan Kodjia equalised before Jack Grealish put the home side ahead a couple of minutes later.
Tammy Abraham scored from the spot, and Alan Hutton’s stunning solo run dashed the Blues’ hopes of a fightback after their second goal. Securing the bragging rights mattered most to many Villa supporters, but they were not entirely happy with all aspects of their side’s performance.
In particular, Chester came in for criticism following his display. The Welshman was not at his best and struggled when in possession, which created plenty of problems for his side.
And although some fans believe that an injury sustained on international duty was the key reason behind his lacklustre display, some are concerned that he is struggling to adapt to Smith’s approach and feel that he may provide another reason why Villa need to strengthen their options at the back in January.
