Jacob Ramsey is another promising star coming through Aston Villa’s youth system.

Aston Villa fans on Twitter have lauded teenage star Jacob Ramsey after he was named the club’s Academy Player of the Season on Wednesday night.
Villa confirmed on their official Twitter account that the 17-year-old had won the prestigious award, with John McGinn winning the two main prizes – Players Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year.
It has been a remarkable rise for Ramsey because only six months ago he was playing for Villa’s Under 18’s and then in February he found himself making his senior debut.
Dean Smith brought the midfielder on as a second-half substitute during Villa’s 2-0 defeat against West Brom. During that period, he found himself in the matchday squad on a number of occasions.
Since then, he has played for the club’s Under-23’s because a certain number of Villa’s senior players returned from injury which has made it tough for him to back the 18 on a matchday.
But with Villa’s playoff spot secured and the final game of the season against Norwich City looming, he could potentially find himself earning some much-deserved action on Sunday.
Here is a selection of Villa fans on Twitter reacting to Ramsey winning Academy Player of the Season:
Over the course of the season, attack-minded Ramsey has played 23 games in all competitions for his club, scoring 10 goals from the middle of the park and supplying his teammates with two assists [transfermarkt].
Villa’s league status will be hugely dependant on how much game time Ramsey will earn under Smith next season, but there is no doubt that if the opportunity is there then a manager like Smith will give youngsters a chance.
