Aston Villa’s youngsters were beaten 3-2 by Reading’s under-23 side yesterday.

Jack Grealish has been criticised by Aston Villa fans for his display during his side’s under-23 match against Reading last night.

Grealish took a step closer to making his first-team comeback, after playing against Reading last night.

The academy graduate has been out with injury since the start of the campaign, and is still searching for match sharpness.

And it seems that Grealish still has some way to go until he is back to his best for Villa, after the claret and blues lost 3-2 to Reading last night.

Grealish’s return to Villa’s first-team will be a boost for Steve Bruce, as it should increase the claret and blues’ attacking options.

The 22-year-old is far from assured of a place in Villa’s starting line-up when he does return, though.

The Villans have been excellent recently, winning four of their last five Championship matches.

Albert Adomah, Josh Onomah and Jonathan Kodjia have all been in impressive form of late, and Grealish faces a battle to win his place back.

Villa are next in action against Birmingham City on Sunday, but that game may come too soon for Grealish to feature.
