The midfielder had an afternoon to forget at Villa Park.
Aston Villa are used to disappointment this season and yesterday was no different. The club were defeated comfortably by Manchester City at Villa Park and subsequently dumped out of the FA Cup.
A hat-trick from Kelechi Iheanacho did the majority of the damage but there was plenty of poor performances from Villa players that aided and abetted this horror show.
One that stood out however was that of midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye.
One of Villa’s summer signings who has failed to shine Gana was actually having a reasonably decent game in the heart of midfield for Villa – even if it was not outstanding.
Then it went rapidly downhill.
His woeful backpass toward Brad Guzan turned out to be a delightfully weighted assist for the Nigerian teenager Iheanacho to bag his third goal.
He was then at fault for the fourth goal as well, giving away possession before City topped off the romp.
The midfielder has struggled for form in England since his summer move and this performance will not endear him to the majority of Villa fans.
