Aston Villa fans couldn’t speak highly enough about Glenn Whelan.
Aston Villa rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 0-0 draw with Watford, but there was cause for celebration regardless.
Gabriel Agbonlahor missed a good chance in the first half, while Henri Lansbury saw a penalty saved by Huerelho Gomes on what was a bit of a damp squib at Villa Park.

Fortunately, some of Steve Bruce’s summer signings looked quite impressive.
John Terry and Ahmed Elmohamady both made their home debuts for Aston Villa after joining the club, but it was Glenn Whelan who seems to have stolen many of the plaudits.
The Irish midfielder posted a calm and assured performance in the middle of the park for Bruce, having joined from Stoke City a little earlier this month.
And fans of the West Midlands club are quite enthused about how his debut panned out.
