Aston Villa fans on Twitter have defended Fabian Delph for his challenge on Harry Kane during Tottenham’s 1-0 win against Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Spurs recorded a valuable lead in the first leg of their Champions League knockout encounter against their Premier League rivals, with Heung-Min Son scoring the only goal of the game.

But the main talking point was the serious-looking injury to Kane, with the England man hobbling off after a strong challenge from his international teammate Delph.

Kane seemingly hurt his ankle and if it is serious then it would be a blow to Tottenham and a potential season-ender for their star man.

But Delph, who played for Villa prior to his move to the Etihad Stadium in 2016, was defended by his former supporters who felt that he didn’t do much wrong.

Either way, in what would be the big positive Spurs now have a lead in this European quarter-final tie as a place in the last four awaits at least one English team.

Here is a selection of Aston Villa fans reacting to Delph’s tackle against Tottenham:

If they were to finish in the top-six then Dean Smith’s side will have a big chance to end their near-three-year wait from the Premier League.
