Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane has been criticised in recent weeks.

Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Conor Hourihane’s performance during the Villans’ 1-1 draw with Stoke City at the weekend.
Hourihane has come in for a lot of criticism in recent times. Despite providing more assists than any other Villa player this term – nine in the Championship, including three in his previous six appearances before the weekend – the fans have not been happy with the 28-year-old’s form.
With just one win in 2019, Dean Smith’s side really needed to bag a victory to give their slim play-off hopes a boost. Stoke are similarly enduring a poor run of form, so not leaving the bet365 Stadium with the three points would have been a further setback.
But unfortunately for Villa, it was Stoke who scored the first goal as Sam Vokes flicked the ball past Jed Steer. Smith also had to deal with losing Alan Hutton to injury in the opening minutes.

Albert Adomah equalised during the second-half after a good run from Anwar El Ghazi. But Villa were unable to find that winner and have fallen to 11th in the table.
Despite the disappointment, plenty of Villa fans praised Hourihane’s performance on social media. They felt that the midfielder showed a lot more than he has done in previous weeks, and suggested that they were reminded of how good he could prove to be with a much better afternoon.

Here is how some of the fans reacted to Hourihane’s display…
