Aston Villa may have clinched victory in the Second City derby on Sunday, but plenty of the Villans’ fans are not getting carried away with some of the performances that they saw from Dean Smith’s side in the 4-2 win.

Goals from Jonathan Kodjia, Jack Grealish, Tammy Abraham and Alan Hutton saw Villa pick up their third straight victory. That run has lifted them up to eighth in the Championship table.

It may have been a memorable day for Villa. But some of the supporters on Twitter were not entirely happy with Conor Hourihane’s display in the victory.

The midfielder did not manage to make a huge impact on the game, particularly in the first-half. And questions could perhaps be asked of his defensive contribution at times.

According to WhoScored however, Hourihane found a teammate with 71 of his 75 passes. In contrast, no Birmingham player made more than 11 accurate passes during the defeat. It is a remarkable statistic considering that the Blues were inches away from going 2-0 up at one stage in the first-half.

Nevertheless, the reaction to Hourihane’s display was mixed. Some Villa supporters have been incredibly critical of the midfielder’s performance, while another fan suggested that Smith could not think of dropping him from the side right now.
