Aston Villa slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at home in the Championship this afternoon.

Villa have been playing well in recent weeks and headed into the match against Wednesday at Villa Park high on confidence.

The Villa Park faithful must have been optimistic about heading into the two-week international break on a positive note.

However, Wednesday produced a very good performance and picked up all three points from the encounter courtesy of a 2-1 victory.

Aston Villa's new signing John Terry and manager Steve Bruce meet supporters before the press conference at Villa Park on July 3, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

Villa fans are understandably disappointed, and some of them have criticised manager Steve Bruce and defender Christopher Samba.

Samba did not start the match, but the 33-year-old defender came on as a substitute for the injured John Terry in the 21st minute.

The former Queens Park Rangers defender, who joined Villa in the summer transfer window, scored Villa’s goal in the sixth minute of injury time.

Villa fans have criticised Samba for his performance and have also slammed manager Bruce for being in a situation where he has to deploy a defender in attack.
