Aston Villa fans on Twitter have hit back at Carlton Palmer after he stated before their 3-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday that he ‘always believed in karma’.

The former England international was seemingly referring to Steve Bruce coming up against his former club for the first time since they sacked him in October.

Well, things didn’t go well for the four-time promotion winner, who had to witness his team drop three valuable points in the race to finish in the top-six.

Here is Palmer’s message, as posted on his personal Twitter account before the game:

On the day, winger Andre Green set-up John McGinn for the equaliser, Jed Steer ended up saving a penalty in the second half when the scores were level while Albert Adomah scored the winning goal.

Villa fans pointed out that it was ‘karma’ for them because Green and Steer were loaned out by Bruce in the summer, whilst Adomah was ousted from the squad and nearly sold to Middlesbrough [Gazzete Live].

Both loanees were brought back by Dean Smith in January and Adomah has scored three goals in his side’s last seven games after failing to find the back of the net since last season.

Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Palmer’s tweet:

The three points push Villa into fifth place, seven points ahead of Wednesday, who drop into 12th as their top-six hopes are now seemingly over.

The likes of Bristol City, Preston, Derby and Nottingham Forest dropped points over the weekend, which was another bonus for Smith’s side.
