Aston Villa youngster Callum O’Hare helped inspire their under-23 side to a big win over Southampton.

The Saints welcomed back defender Virgil van Dijk, who was linked with a £60 million summer transfer to Liverpool in the summer.

Van Dijk barely looked like a defender worth a tenth of that fee has Villa ran the Saints ragged and won 4-0.

O’Hare was a key part of that, scoring an excellent fourth goal.

From Villa’s perspective the game was notable for Jonathan Kodjia making his long awaited return from injury.

He played 45 minutes and was withdrawn with Villa 2-0 up through a brace from Jordan Cox.

Corey Blackett-Taylor scored a third before O’Hare netted his impressive fourth goal which had Van Dijk backing off him the whole way.

O’Hare, 19, made his debut for Villa in the EFL Cup earlier this season but is yet to feature in the Championship under Steve Bruce.

Villa fans are hoping his performance up against Van Dijk means this is only a matter of time…
