Aston Villa supporters on Twitter provided a mixed reaction to promotion rivals Bristol City beating Middlesbrough 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Before the start of the match, both teams were below Villa in the Championship table, with a draw most likely suiting Dean Smith’s side who now drop down to sixth in the table, with Bristol City moving into fifth.

It was another game where Boro, who have now lost five on the bounce, failed to score with David Webster scoring the only goal of the game after 31 minutes.

Just like in their previous matches Tony Pulis’ side tried to knock on the door later in the game, but as some Villa fans pointed out it looks like the North East club are mentally capitulating.

One Villa supporter stated that their game against Lee Jonson’s side later on in the month is going to be the club’s ‘biggest game’ of the season, with the winner possibly taking control in the driving seat.

Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Bristol City’s win against Boro:

There is no doubt that promotion to the Premier League is going to go to the wire. It won’t be a surprise to see the automatic places and play-off places still being up for grabs on the final day of the season.

If the teams around Villa (Bristol City and Derby) win their remaining games in hand then they would push Dean Smith’s side outside of the top-six, so despite being on a five-game winning run, it has to continue in order for them to cause more damage.
