Steve Bruce’s side delivered a display low on quality, with confidence being sapped as every game goes on.
Academy talent Andre Green was among the starters, and despite putting in the effort, he fell short in being able to impact the game.
The talented 19-year-old started on the left wing, but managed only 33 touches in 90 minutes.
Despite this he managed to get into bright positions but missed the opportunities which came his way, having four attempts and getting just two on target.
It is clearly tough playing in this dispiriting Villa side, but fans are beginning to question whether Green is good enough for them right now.
The teenager has talent and is putting in the effort, but the job at hand may simply be beyond the attacker.
