Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Swansea City forward Andre Ayew this summer.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports from Football Ghana this week which suggested that Dean Smith is interested in signing Andre Ayew this summer – and it is fair to say that the supporters are not convinced that they need to take the rumour seriously.

The Villans are making plans for life back at England’s top table after securing promotion to the Premier League. With a number of their key players from this past season only on loan, it would be no surprise if Smith looked to start getting business down as quickly as possible, especially as their play-off campaign has reduced the time they have to prepare.

But it would be no surprise to see a number of new faces also arrive this summer. And Football Ghana has suggested that Ayew – brother of former Villa forward Jordan Ayew – is on Smith’s radar.

Ayew has not had the best time in England. He was initially impressive with Swansea, but struggled during an 18-month spell at West Ham and failed to score a single goal upon his return to the Liberty Stadium. He has spent the last year on loan with Fenerbahce where he did little to capture the imagination.

And the Villa supporters on social media appear to see absolutely no way that Ayew will end up at Villa Park this summer. This seems to be the start of a potentially exciting chapter in the club’s history, and the 29-year-old does not fit the bill for what Villa fans want in the transfer market.

Some have suggested that a pursuit would be a bad idea, while others are refusing to believe that the Ghana international is a player who finds himself on Smith’s shopping list this summer.
