Aston Villa youngsters will be looking to break into the senior set up in the near future now Dean Smith is the manager.

Aston Villa fans expressed their delight on Twitter after the club’s under-23 beat rivals Wolves 1-0 in Premier League 2 on Monday evening.

Forward Cameron Archer scored the only goal of the game for his side in the second-half as the Young Lions secured a valuable three points.

There are a number of Villa players that are out on loan with the likes of Callum O’Hare and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy enjoying successful spells in League Two.

As a result, that has depleted the under-23’s a little, but it has given the younger players in Villa’s academy the chance to show their worth at a higher level.

There is no doubt if the younger players do impress then they will be given a chance by manager Dean Smith, who is known to bring through academy players.

In February, he gave 17-year-old midfielder Jacob Ramsey his debut during Villa’s 2-0 defeat against West Brom, with Ramsey now starting against Wolves on Monday night.

After that win from the youngsters, the senior side will be looking to continue their own good run in the Championship when they take on Rotherham on Wednesday night.

Smith’s side have won six games on the bounce, including netting two stoppage-time goals at the weekend as they beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 away from home.
