John Terry is leaving Chelsea after a trophy-laden career at Stamford Bridge – but could he make a shock move to Aston Villa?

Captain, leader, James Chester’s centre-back partner? Steve Bruce may have been talking distinctly tongue in cheek when suggesting that Aston Villa could get Chelsea’s departing skipper John Terry on the blower but, on reflection, that would hardly be the worst idea.
“Well he can come to us if he wants,” the Villa boss told the Birmingham Mail. “In fact I might just get on the phone right now!”
However, with the club reeling from successive 3-1 defeats in the space of just three days, a player with Terry’s leadership, experience and overall quality wouldn’t go amiss.
And while a wallet-lining short-term stint in China or the Middle East would appear the most natural destination for the 36-year-old centre-back, it appears that the legend himself believes he can still cut it in England.
After all, he did lead Chelsea to the Premier League title just two years ago.
According to The Guardian, Terry is open to continuing his career in English football after announcing his departure from Chelsea. West Brom, Bournemouth and Stoke City are all particularly keen on a player who has won almost every trophy worth winning.
And although he has played just four times in the Premier League this season, it’s hard to imagine that Bruce would not jump at the chance to bring Terry to Aston Villa – some 17 years after he came agonisingly close to signing him at Huddersfield Town for just £750,000, as reported by The Guardian.
