Grealish has been suspended for violent conduct after a stamp on Wolves
Aston Villa have been dealt a blow ahead of a crucial 10 days as the FA confirmed on Tuesday evening that young star Jack Grealish has been handed a three-match ban for violent conduct.
Grealish put his foot in on Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Conor Coady after the Wolves man was already on the ground in the 1-1 draw at Villa Park on Saturday.
He has now been served with a three-game suspension for his actions, the first match of which was tonight’s clash with Reading at the Madejski Stadium.
The episode is just the latest in a long line of controversies surrounding the England Under-21s star, but at least this time it came as a result of something that happened on the pitch rather than off it.
The 21-year-old has hit the headlines for several indiscretions in his private life, usually allegedly involving either alcohol or the inhalation of nitrous oxide.
Villa owner Tony Xia earlier this season urged Grealish not to let the club down with his behaviour, whilst manager and pundit Ian Holloway suggested that the player needs to sort his life out.
On the field this season he has been in mixed form, scoring twice in 11 appearances in all competitions but experiencing inconsistency in his form.
He will now miss the home clash with Fulham this weekend, and, more significantly, will be unavailable for the second city derby clash against arch-rivals Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s on 30 October.
Reacting to the news on Twitter, Villa fans gave Grealish little sympathy.
