Villa are reportedly looking to sign Burnley’s Gibson on a loan-to-buy deal.

Ben Gibson of Burnley looks on during the FA Cup Fourth Round match between Manchester City and Burnley at Etihad Stadium on January 26, 2019 in Manchester, United Kingdom.

Aston Villa are reportedly looking to sign Burnley centre-back Ben Gibson on a loan-to-buy deal until the end of the season – and Villa fans are desperate to see their club land the defender.

Sky Sports claim 26-year-old Gibson is the subject of a temporary move from Dean Smith’s Villa, as the rock-solid centre-back continues to struggle since his £12million (Sky Sports) move to Turf Moor last summer.

Gibson has managed just five appearances in all season, though he did undergo an operation in September to correct a hernia problem. Since his return, though, he has failed to break into Sean Dyche’s side.

The combination of Ben Mee and James Tarkowski remain ahead of Gibson, who played 204 times for Middlesbrough before finally leaving the club – in which his father Steve is the chairman.

His move to Burnley has failed to prove a success, and now Villa are keen to bring Gibson to the Midlands in a bid to help Smith’s side make a late push for the Championship play-offs.

Villa fans have reacted to the news that their club have made an offer to sign Gibson, which includes a permanent clause that could see the powerhouse join the club at the end of the season – and fans are excited.
