Anwar El Ghazi has finally completed a loan move to Everton from Aston Villa after days of speculation over a £15million permanent deal. However, it appears El Ghazi has only joined on loan – and Villa fans have reacted.
El Ghazi, 26, has left Villa after the club brought in Leon Bailey and Emi Buendia in the summer – before signing Philippe Coutinho in recent days. It has pushed the Netherlands international down the pecking order.
Indeed, the ex-Ajax star had only managed nine Premier League appearances this season for Villa – five of which were from the bench. The Liverpool Echo report that a £15million move had been discussed.
The Echo also confirms that a permanent clause has been included in the deal, though it is not an obligation to buy for El Ghazi. It comes less than 24 hours after Villa announced the signing of Everton defender Lucas Digne.
What are Villa fans saying about Everton signing El Ghazi?
Everton brought in the likes of Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend in the summer, for bargain fees. Both have starred for the Toffees under Rafa Benitez, with the Spanish boss boasting numerous options out wide.
Along with Gray and Townsend, Everton also have Richarlison and Alex Iwobi – while Anthony Gordon is coming through the ranks to impress of late. So it will be interesting to see the role Benitez has for El Ghazi.
Villa fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the exit of El Ghazi – who could not work his way past the likes of Bertrand Traore, and others. Many think it is a move that makes sense – while others are not so sure.
