Aston Villa suffered a dismal 1-0 loss to League One minnows Burton Albion in the second round of the Carabao Cup and fans have called for Steve Bruce to be replaced – by Thierry Henry.

Target man Liam Boyce scored the only goal of the game before Albert Adomah missed a penalty in the 89th minute, as Nigel Clough’s Burton frustrated the Midlands giants throughout the clash at the Pirelli Stadium.

Villa made nine changes before the match, handing a second appearance to new signing Anwar El Ghazi who impressed on his debut against Reading with an assist. But he failed to make an impact on Tuesday night.

It sees Villa go four games without a win after a solid start which saw Bruce’s side win their opening three matches against Hull City, Wigan Athletic and Yeovil Town in the Cup. Three league draws and a loss to Burton has followed.

Some Villa fans have become frustrated with the former Birmingham City and Sunderland manager, who replaced Roberto Di Matteo almost two years ago. Indeed, a selection of fans are desperate to see the 57-year-old replaced.

Indeed, a handful of supporters want to see the club land Thierry Henry, after Goal quoted French club Bordeaux’s President Stephane Martin as saying: “We can confirm the end of the negotiations.”

Villa were linked with a move for Henry earlier this summer, with the Daily Mail claiming Villa’s new investors wanted a change at the helm before they took over. Bruce has remained, but fans are dreaming of Henry in the dugout.
