Garry Monk is now available, but Aston Villa are unlikely to be moving for him.
Resigned… Leeds United’s manager Garry Monk
Garry Monk quit his post as Leeds United head coach yesterday, and is not expected to be without a job for long.
Vacant posts at Crystal Palace, Watford, Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Hull all need filling and a young promising coach like Monk is hot property.
One club unlikely to be in the mix is Aston Villa, but that has not stopped their fans from discussing the possibility.
Aston Villa fans
Steve Bruce was appointed midway through last season after Roberto di Matteo’s poor start, and still has plenty of work to do if he is to win everybody over.
Monk led Leeds to four points out of a possible six last season against Villa, and clearly made a good impression, with these fans keen for the club to ditch Bruce and get Monk in.
While Garry Monk is the fresh young face of management, Bruce is an experienced ‘old timer’ who has been there and done it.
He has earned promotion previously on more than one occasion and Villa fans should not judge him too early after the woeful start to the season they had.
Bruce steadied the ship and deserves a full season at the helm before his time at the club can be properly assessed. This might be the club’s only chances to get Monk, but it is an option they have to pass on.
