Aston Villa beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Aston Villa boosted their play-off hopes with a superb 3-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, picking up a victory over their former boss Steve Bruce.
Wednesday did take the lead at Hillsborough though, as George Boyd broke down the left, and picked out Gary Hooper to tuck home from close range.
John McGinn grabbed a fine equaliser though as his goalscoring form continued, placing the ball into the corner of the net from Andre Green’s cut back.
Wednesday won a penalty in the second half, but Villa stopper Jed Steer saved Steven Fletcher’s spot kick, giving Villa the platform to go on and win.
Deep into added time, Jonathan Kodjia’s strike was saved, with Albert Adomah squeezing home the rebound, and it got even better as Tammy Abraham found time to grab a third.
Villa are hot favourites to reach the play-offs now, having racked up a sixth straight Championship win, and claiming it over former boss Bruce will have made it even sweeter.

That may well be the case for goalkeeper Steer, who was barely given a chance by Bruce but has now nailed down a starting spot under Dean Smith, and his penalty save at 1-1 was absolutely key to Villa’s win.
Fans have been taking to Twitter to react to Steer’s display, praising his role in the victory, but also mocking Bruce in the process, suggesting that it’s ‘karma’ that a player he froze out ended up preventing him from getting a win.
