As of right now, John Terry looks a far better signing for Aston Villa than Marc Roberts does for Birmingham City.

Aston Villa seemingly dropped their interest in Barnsley captain Marc Roberts when it emerged that a deal for John Terry was on the cards during the summer transfer window.
With Roberts joining bitter Midlands rivals Birmingham City instead, you wonder whether Villa had chosen reputation over form.
After all, Roberts had been one of the most impressive defenders in the Championship last season while Terry, although one of the most successful English footballers of the modern era, was coming to the end of his career and nowhere near his heyday.

Though the events of Saturday afternoon appeared to be more than enough to justify Villa’s decision to hand the veteran defender a new start after two decades at Chelsea.
Just a few hours after a trademark bullet header form the former England skipper set Villa on their way to an impressive 2-1 win over Fulham, Roberts’ Birmingham went down 2-0 at Millwall.
And the irony has not passed by Villa supporters. After all, Birmingham too were keen on landing Terry once his contract at Chelsea expired in the summer but Villa owner Tony Xia made it his personal mission, per The Mirror, to nab the 36-year-old and secure local bragging rights.

As things stand, Terry is looking a far more astute signing than the £3.5 million Roberts (The Mail). And Villa supporters are making sure they don’t pass up the opportunity to rub this in the face of their rivals.
