The Villa Park striker netted in his nation’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Algeria to force extra time.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Jonathan Kodjia’s display for Ivory Coast in their Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Algeria.
The Elephants went down a goal in the first half as their opponents broke the deadlock on 20 minutes through Sofiane Feghouli’s side-footed finish, though there was a reprieve as the Fennecs missed a penalty.
Kodjia then got his side back into the game just after the hour with a low finish, Villa’s Twitter account sharing the official Eurosport footage on their feed:
Despite the 29-year-old’s vital contribution, which helped to force extra time with the scores tied at 1-1, Ivory Coast’s journey would end following a penalty shootout defeat to Algeria, who will now meet Nigeria in Cairo on Sunday.
Here is what some of the Villa faithful made of his performance:
Kodjia has been on Villa’s books since signing from Aston Villa for £11.6million, and in 97 appearances in claret and blue, he has scored 29 goals and registered eight assists, according to Transfermarkt.
Last season he made 41 Championship appearances, scoring nine goals and notching up three assists, though he was on the bench for the victorious playoff final against Derby County at Wembley Stadium (Transfermarkt).
