Aston Villa have only had Steven Gerrard in charge for a few weeks, but they’re already being liked with a raid on Liverpool for Joe Gomez.
Villa have claimed two wins from two league games under Gerrard, beating Brighton and Hove Albion and then Crystal Palace.
Gerrard will be looking to continue that fine start against Manchester City tonight.
An interesting transfer rumour has emerged though, with Villa allegedly keen to sign Liverpool defender Gomez.
The Sunday Mirror (28/11, p72) report that Gerrard wants to take Gomez on loan for the rest of the season.
This would of course mean Gerrard asking for a favour from his former club Liverpool in a bid to strengthen the Villa squad.
Gomez has only played 13 minutes of Premier League action this season and fears for his England future if he remains on the Liverpool sidelines.

Gerrard could offer a temporary escape route if Jurgen Klopp is interested in the idea of a loan, though Liverpool will be wary of another defensive crisis.
Some fans are begging for Gomez to join, believing he is ‘quality’ and would made Villa’s defence ‘disgusting’.
Others really don’t understand, believing that Villa don’t need another centre back.
They would rather see a centre back come in, failing to grasp just why Gerrard thinks Gomez is needed at Villa.
