Kodjia joined Villa in a deal that could ultimately cost the club £15 million.
Aston Villa further bolstered their prolific Championship strikeforce on Tuesday with the signing of Bristol City hitman Jonathan Kodjia on a four-year deal.
Villa already boast huge ability in their attack with Ross McCormack and Rudy Gestede in their squad; the former scored 116 Championship goals across spells with Cardiff, Leeds, and Fulham, whilst the latter has hit 34 in his last 64 second-tier appearances for Blackburn and Villa.
Now, the relegated club have added Bristol City striker Kodjia after the Ivory Coast international racked up 19 strikes in 45 league games for the Robins last term.
Alongside established Ghana international Jordan Ayew, Villa can now make an argument that they have the most potent attacking line-up in the Championship.
They have certainly spent the money to get it in this inflated market. McCormack cost £12 million from Fulham, although that kind of fee was arguably justified by the consistency of the Scot’s scoring record in the second tier.
Kodjia has now arrived for an initial £11 million in a deal which could ultimately rise to a Championship-record £15 million.
Whilst Kodjia’s goalscoring ability last season cannot be doubted, the deal is one that has caused controversy amongst neutrals, mostly for the lucrative nature of its finances.
It has also been fairly divisive amongst Villa fans on Twitter. Many hailed the signing as another statement of intent as Villa likely completed their attacking for the season.
However, others were far from convinced about Kodjia, either because of the inflated price tag or simply due to concerns over whether he is the right calibre of player for Villa.
