Alex Bruce has left Hull City after the expiry of his contract – but what are the chances of him rocking up at Aston Villa this summer?

Before you all cry ‘nepotism’, let us remind you that Alex Bruce helped guide Hull City to promotion from the Championship just twelve months ago.
At the age of 32, few defenders are more proven in the second tier than the former Leeds United and Ipswich Town stopper. Therefore, after he revealed that he would be bringing an end to a largely successful time at the KCom Stadium, as reported by the Hull Daily Mail, there will surely be a number of Championship clubs readying a move.
The question on the lips of Aston Villa supporters, however, is whether their club will be among them.
After all, it’s fair to say Bruce knows Villa’s manager rather well. In fact, his father, Steve, managed him at both Hull and Birmingham.
Therefore, he knows Alex’s qualities better than anyone. Whether he believes his free-agent son could put his leadership ability and no-nonsense, body-on-the-line defending to good use at Villa, however, remains to be seen.
Though with former Bournemouth skipper Tommy Elphick (below) tipped to depart after a disappointing debut campaign, as reported by The Telegraph, there could be a place in the Villa squad for defensive reinforcements.

And Villa supporters are fully expecting Alex to shake his father by the hand and hold up a claret and blue strip sooner rather than later.
