The Sheffield Wednesday star spent nine years on Aston Villa’s books.

Barry Bannan’s performance against Aston Villa on Saturday has left many Villa supporters ruing the day they allowed the Sheffield Wednesday midfielder to leave Villa Park.
Bannan was instrumental in Wednesday’s 2-1 win in Birmingham, and sparked the move that led to the Owls’ second goal, courtesy of Jordan Rhodes.
The Airdrie-born player moved to Aston Villa in his early teens and spent nine years on the club’s books before leaving for Crystal Palace in 2013.

Now more than two seasons into his Sheffield Wednesday career, Bannan is enjoying arguably his best run of form for the Owls.
And so good was the 27-year-old’s most recent display that several Villa have been discussing whether their club should try to buy him back.
Here’s what they’ve been saying on Twitter:
Wednesday took an 18-second lead against the Villans thanks to Adam Reach’s wonder strike, before Rhodes doubled their advantage 22 minutes later.
Liam Palmer should have put Carlos Carvalhal’s side 3-0 up after the break, and Christopher Samba’s consolation six minutes into stoppage time ensured a nervy finish for the visitors.
Would Bannan walk into Aston Villa’s current side?
