Sergi Canos was in inspired form as Brentford beat Championship rivals Aston Villa 2-1 at Griffin Park on Boxing Day.

Aston Villa paid £10 million more for Scott Hogan than Brentford splashed out on Sergi Canos.
But if you had to pick out the £12 million player as The Bees edged out Aston Villa 2-1 at Griffin Park on Boxing Day, you’d point immediately at the bleached blonde winger running riot on the right wing.
Brentford’s Spanish schemer was the best player on the park as they consigned Steve Bruce’s side to a fifth game without a win in the Championship. He managed eight shots on goal, just one less than Villa’s overall total, and gave Alan Hutton a rather severe case of twisted blood.

And to rub salt into the wounds, it must be pointed out that Aston Villa paid far, far more for the likes of Hogan, Ross McCormack and Aaron Tshibola than Brentford invested in Canos.
In fact, the one-time Liverpool youngster cost The Bees just £2.5 million when they rescued him from his forgettable stint at Norwich City in the January 2017 transfer window, as reported by Sky Sports.

And Villa fans are right to wonder why their club isn’t pulling off these impressive bargain deals for talented rising stars – instead splurging big fees on big names who have failed spectacularly to live up to their price tags.
