Aston Villa’s financial woes over the summer were well documented, and yet fans are concerned that they have learned absolutely nothing.

Villa missed out on promotion back to the Premier League with a play-off final defeat to Fulham in May, and that sparked major financial woes as Villa counted the cost of missing out on the top flight.

Many thought that top talents like Jack Grealish and James Chester would be sold, only for Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris to step in as the club’s new owners, alleviating the immediate concerns.

Financial Fair Play will still be a problem for Villa in 2019 though, and new reports about the signing of Yannick Bolasie have fans hugely concerned about the club’s decision making.

The Birmingham Mail report that Villa are paying Bolasie’s £70,000-a-week wages in full – initially reported as £80,000-a-week – adding a huge cost to their expenditure just weeks after the club’s financial situation appeared dire.

Nobody is doubting that Bolasie – signed from Everton – is a top signing for a Championship club, but his humongous wages are of great concern to a host of supporters.

Fans took to Twitter after hearing the news on Sunday to air their views, suggesting that the deal is ‘utter madness’ as the club clearly haven’t learned anything from their financial woes.

Some believe Villa deserve administration if the reports are true, noting that Steve Bruce deserves to be sacked if the figures are right, with this kind of spending simply unsustainable in the Championship.
