Aston Villa defender Jacob Bedeau has left for Scunthorpe United.

Aston Villa brought in a couple of new signings on deadline day, but one departure left fans a little baffled to say the least.

Villa landed Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings on loan until the end of the season, before striking a similar deal for midfielder Tom Carroll too.

Those two should bolster Dean Smith’s squad for the rest of the campaign, but Villa also let one young player go in a curious move.

Defender Jacob Bedeau has dropped down to League One, joining Scunthorpe United on a free transfer, penning a deal until 2021.

The centre back only joined Villa from Bury in January 2017, with Steve Bruce sanctioning a £600,000 plus add-ons deal for the centre back (Sky Sports), having shown promise with Bury.

That was a considerable fee for a teenager, and Villa not only failed to give him a single senior appearance, but then gave him away for free.

It’s a somewhat strange move, and Villa fans will hope that they aren’t made to pay for letting a youngster go, as they have with the likes of Daniel Johnson and Callum Robinson in recent years.

Villa fans have even taken to Twitter to share their bemusement, believing that it’s terrible business to have let Bedeau go for absolutely nothing, with others wondering why he was even bought in the first place in an ‘unbelievable’ series of events.
