Aston Villa are back in action on Friday night as they travel to Ashton Gate in order to take on Bristol City in their latest Championship game.

Villa lost 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday last time out, and manager Steve Bruce remains under huge pressure from fans after a disappointing start to the season.

Bruce needs a big result against Bristol City, but he has at least been given some great news this week by playmaker Jack Grealish.

The Villa star, 23, was exceptional in Villa’s push to the play-offs last season, and was wanted by a number of Premier League clubs this summer, with Tottenham particularly keen.

They couldn’t convince Villa to sell though, and Grealish has now signed a new five-year contract with his boyhood club, keeping him at Villa Park until 2023.

Grealish hasn’t quite hit the same heights so far this season, registering no goals and just the one assist, though a different role – playing out wide rather than centrally – has contributed to hose numbers, or lack thereof.

Now, Bruce has celebrated the good news about Grealish, but suggested that he needs to improve his form and get back to how he was performing last season.

Villa fans have taken exception to those comments, suggesting that Bruce’s comments are negative and hardly inspiring, believing that it’s his fault Grealish isn’t at his best as he is playing him out wide, and want him to leave due to his awful management.
