Aston Villa fans are tweeting Barry Bannan after beating the midfielder’s Sheffield Wednesday side on Saturday.

Wednesday had looked the more likely winners until Bannan’s substitution due to injury in the 73rd minute, after which Villa scored twice to secure a 3-1 victory.

And several of an Aston Villa persuasion suspect the Scot’s withdrawal was a turning point for Dean Smith’s team at Hillsborough.

Gary Hooper’s first goal this season gave Sheffield Wednesday a seventh-minute lead against Aston Villa, who cancelled out the Owls’ advantage shortly afterwards through John McGinn.

Sheffield Wednesday dropped a place to 12th meanwhile and are now five points adrift of the top six.
