Fulham are in talks to sign Stuttgart’s Bundesliga record-breaker Serhou Guirassy in the January transfer window but could face competition from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
Marco Silva would likely have been under no illusions that, after Fulham reportedly opened talks with Serhou Guirassy’s camp, the battle to secure his signature would be far from straightforward.
The presence of Aston Villa – ambitious and deep-pocketed – is one potentially sizeable stumbling block. TEAMtalk say that Unai Emery’s side would like to bring in a centre-forward capable of easing the burden on the in-form Ollie Watkins. And who better than a man who’s rapidfire start to the new Bundesliga campaign has left the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland choking on his dust.

Aston Villa join Fulham in Serhou Guirassy race
Guirassy has made the best ever start – in terms of goals scored – to a German top-flight campaign. The well-travelled Frenchman has 14 in eight league games. 15 in all competitions, including hat-tricks against Wolfsburg and Mainz.
Stuttgart, then, may be rueing the existence of a £15 million release clause. One which opens the door for Guirassy to leave for a fraction of the fee he would otherwise be worth.
TEAMtalk add that, while Aston Villa have ‘taken notice’ of his remarkable form, Fulham have made all the early progress, holding talks with Guirassy’s representatives. The Cottagers are ‘extremely keen’ to sign the one-time West Ham and Crystal Palace target as early as January, Guirassy the man earmarked to fill an Aleksandr Mitrovic-shaped hole in Silva’s frontline.
Aleksandr Mitrovic’s replacement
“He is in the form of his life in my opinion,” Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeness said recently after Guirassy became the first Stuttgart player in 55 years to hit the eight-goal mark after just four Bundesliga matches (DW).
“He is incredibly strong. “We have seen the entire Guirassy range (of finishes, from bullet headers to clever chips). This also includes the fact that he notices when it is important to run and when work hard without the ball.”
Fulham could also make a move for Gent starlet Gift Orban.
