The Villa attacker was sent off after what was deemed violent conduct against Whites forward Patrick Bamford at Elland Road in the Championship.
Aston Villa have confirmed that Anwar El Ghazi’s red card picked up against Leeds United at Elland Road has been rescinded.
The 23-year-old was sent off in Sunday’s fiery Championship game between the Villans and the Whites at Elland Road after being adjudged by referee Stuart Attwell to have struck Patrick Bamford.
In addition, the Leeds striker has been charged with “successful deception of a match official” while both teams have been charged with failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 72nd minute at Elland Road (FA statement).
The flashpoint was sparked by the Whites’ controversial goal from Mateusz Klich, scored while Villa’s Jonathan Kodija was down injured, and was followed by the hosts’ manager Marcelo Bielsa ordering his team to let the visitors equalise.
TV replays subsequently showed El Ghazi had made no contact with his opponent and his red card, which carried a three-match suspension, has now been overturned by a three-person FA panel.
El Ghazi, on loan from Lille, is thus available for the Norwich City game this weekend and for Villa’s subsequent playoff semi-final matches, while Bamford has until 6pm on Wednesday 1 May to respond to the charge.
