Aston Villa have suffered horrendous luck with injuries this season.

Villa boss Steve Bruce addressed the media today, ahead of his side’s clash with the Owls at Hillsborough tomorrow, and provided a worrying fitness update on some of his key players, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

The west Midlands outfit currently sit in third spot in the Championship table, four points adrift of the automatic promotion places, but their season is in danger of being derailed, what with so many of their important first-team players out injured.

Bruce spoke to reporters during his pre-match press conference today, and delivered a concerning update on some of his key men, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail:

Manager of Aston Villa Steve Bruce during the pre season friendly match between Aston Villa and Watford at Villa Park on July 29, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

“Unfortunately he’s (Grabban) got a bit of a sore groin from his exploits the other night and well see how it is this morning. He’s another one (Tuanzebe). He’s got a hamstring strain. Two games in three days is a big ask even as a great athlete. He’s nicked his hamstring so won’t be involved tomorrow.”

Bruce also went on to explain how Keinan Davis will be monitored after twisting his ankle in the final stages of the draw against Preston.

Jack Grealish of Aston Villa claps the fans after the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Birmingham City at Villa Park on February 11, 2018 in Birmingham, England.

The Villa boss admitted that Jack Grealish and Albert Adomah will realistically not be in contention to play before next weekend’s game against Queens Park Rangers and with Jonathan Kodjia a long-term absentee, the Villans now have six important first-team players currently out injured.

Bruce will want to avoid the lottery of the play-offs at all costs, and will be desperate to achieve automatic promotion, but with Cardiff on a fine run of form, and four points ahead of them in the table, that will be easier said than done.

Villa have suffered horrendous luck with injuries this season, and if they are to go up automatically, they will need their best players back and available for selection sooner rather than later.
