Chilean outlet La Tercera claim that Aston Villa are willing to match Alexis Sanchez’s Inter Milan wages as a potential free transfer return to the Premier League beckons.

The former Arsenal attacker has had a tumultuous time in recent years. He had a torrid time of it at Manchester United before rediscovering a hint of his best form at Inter Milan.

Indeed, Sanchez has been far from a disaster at Inter, netting nine goals last season, but, as every Premier League fan knows, the South American is capable of so much more than that.

Once upon a time, Sanchez was one of the most feared hitmen in the Premier League, netting no fewer than 24 league goals during the 2016/17 season for Arsenal, and now, he could return to his old stomping ground in the Premier League with Aston Villa.

A move to Villa Park should appeal to Sanchez. After all, the Midlands club have proven that they know how to rekindle a fledgling career, as they’ve shown with Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho and Sanchez’s careers have been eerily similar in recent years, they’ve both dipped since leaving Liverpool and Arsenal respectively before rediscovering a bit of form at Bayern Munich and Inter, and, at least in Coutinho’s case, a move to Villa has reignited his best form.

There’s reason to believe that Sanchez could follow in the Brazilian’s footsteps. He’d be the archetypal big fish in a medium-sized pond if he moved to Villa, and as we’ve seen with Coutinho himself, Steven Gerrard is more than happy to accommodate for a luxury player and allow them to spread their creative wings.

There’s no reason why Sanchez couldn’t follow Coutinho’s trajectory and get back to something close to his best after joining Aston Villa.
