Aston Villa could live to regret missing out in the chase for George Boyd, with the Burnley man set to sign for Sheffield Wednesday, according to the Burnley Express.
The Owls have reportedly agreed a two-year deal with Boyd, who will undergo a medical at Hillsborough later today.
Villa had been said to be chasing Boyd for much of the summer so far by the Daily Mirror, with Steve Bruce keen for a reunion with the Scotland international.
However, it seems that Boyd has opted to join Wednesday – and Villa could regret not pushing harder for the transfer.
Boyd’s arrival at Wednesday helps to strengthen one of Villa’s main promotion rivals, and the 31-year-old could be a difference maker in deciding who goes up from the Championship.
Boyd’s tireless work has caught the eye at Premier League level, but the left winger’s skill is also a major threat at Championship level.
Boyd is a stand out operator in the second tier, and should help to add creativity to Wednesday’s fearsome attack.
Boyd would surely have aided Bruce in his search to find the winning formula at Villa, had he chosen to move to the Midlands club.
And it may be that the claret and blues have to look on with frustration, if Boyd finds his top form at Wednesday in the upcoming campaign.
