Leeds United and Aston Villa were said to be going for Karl Darlow, but Marcelo Bielsa’s side may be looking elsewhere.

Aston Villa could have a free run to sign Karl Darlow from Newcastle United in January now, with Leeds United looking elsewhere.

The Sun have previously claimed that Villa were battling with Leeds for the goalkeeper.

But according today’s print edition of the Daily Mirror (page 57), Leeds are now set to sign Kieren Westwood from Sheffield Wednesday.

And that could be great news for Villa, as they look to sign a new number one.

Leeds looked to be their main rivals for Darlow, but now they may have a free run to sign the 28-year-old from Newcastle in the new year.

Villa have put Orjan Nyland in goal so far this season, but he has looked very shaky.

And the arrival of Darlow at Villa Park would surely be a major boost to Smith’s side for the second half of the campaign.
