Aston Villa considered making a £60m bid for Juventus forward Federico Chiesa during the summer transfer window.

That is according to a report from Goal.

Aston Villa weighed up a move for Federico Chiesa

As per Goal, Aston Villa were interested in Federico Chiesa and thought about submitting a €70m (£60m) proposal for the 25-year-old.

The same outlet has also suggested that Liverpool had Chiesa on their radar but, in the end, he remained at Juventus.

Had Villa signed the Italian for £60m, he would have become their record signing.

The Midlands club still broke their transfer record during the summer, though, after buying Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen for nearly £52m.

Federico Chiesa would have been an incredible signing for Aston Villa

It is a shame that Villa were not able to land Chiesa, as the Italy international is obviously an exceptional player.

He really proved that at Euro 2020, scoring a couple of goals for his country as they went on to beat England in the final at Wembley and win the tournament.

Chiesa is also quite a good dribbler, completing 2.3 dribbles per game so far this season, which is the highest average in his squad (WhoScored).

Maybe a move for the former Fiorentina man, who has been hailed as a “world-class” player by former Italy defender Alessandro Pierini, is something Villa will revisit in the future. For now, though, they will probably be more than content with Diaby, who has already scored a couple of times for them since arriving at Villa Park.
