Villa drew 1-1 at home to Wolves in Bruce’s first game in charge on Saturday.
Aston Villa captain Tommy Elphick has discussed the club’s appointment of Steve Bruce as manager and believes that the new boss will set standards which lay the foundation for a winning habit, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
Villa appointed Bruce as Roberto di Matteo’s replacement after the Italian was sacked following an abject start to the Championship season.
In their first game under the former Birmingham City boss, Villa were held to a 1-1 draw at Villa Park by Wolverhampton Wanderers, who looked far and away the better team, particularly in the second half.
There is undoubtedly a huge amount of work to be done in B6 if Villa are to climb away from relegation danger and even think about launching a push for the play-offs.
Elphick, who until his enforced substitution had played every single minute of Villa’s Championship campaign this season, believes that the club is in good hands with Bruce.
The skipper said before Saturday’s game, Via the Birmingham Mail: “We were all delighted to see the club appoint Steve Bruce on Wednesday, giving us some time to work with him before the game.
“His CV as a player and manager speaks for itself – he’s going to set standards for the football club and they will be standards that get us into a winning habit.
“Everyone will be getting a fresh start under him and it’s time to prove ourselves that we are good enough to be in his plans going forward.”
Villa fans will be desperate to see a marked improvement upon Saturday’s performance over the next few weeks if they are to be given the belief that Bruce can turn things around.
The struggling side now turn their attention to their next fixture as they travel to Reading on Tuesday night.
