Aston Villa boast one of the fiercest attacks in the Championship, but unfortunately for them, they also have one of the league’s weakest defences.

Dean Smith’s free-scoring side could find themselves losing that potent attacking threat over the final weeks of the January transfer window.

Villa confirmed on their official Twitter account on Monday that Everton loanee Yannick Bolasie will return to his parent club after ending his loan spell in the Midlands.

Added with that, French outlet, Ouest France claimed that versatile attacker Jonathan Kodjia, who has been deployed on the left wing this season, is willing to leave the club in order to gain some regular game time.

Simply put, Villa cannot allow the 29-year-old to leave and follow Bolasie out of the door because it would cause serious trouble for Smith in the short term and the medium to long term.

At this moment in time, Villa are trying their utmost best to close the seven-point gap on the Championship’s top-six, but with it, they also have to plan towards not getting promoted.

If Villa lose Kodjia this month then it would decrease their chances even further of finishing in a playoff place, plus it would cause Smith a number of problems in the summer.

The reason being only Scott Hogan and Albert Adomah would be Villa’s senior attacking players, with the likes of Tammy Abraham and Anwar El Ghazi returning to their loan clubs.

Kodjia has only started two games in December, he may not seem important to Smith now, but if Villa fail in their promotion bid, Abraham will no longer be here, which will make the Ivory Coast international the club’s most important player in the attacking third.
