Aston Villa will be welcoming Frederic Guilbert this summer.
Aston Villa will be focused on the Championship playoff final against Derby County on Monday, and Frederic Guilbert will be looking for some good news.
Guilbert, 24, signed for Villa in January, but was loaned back to Caen to see out the rest of the season in an attempt to keep them in Ligue 1.
The right back started out his career with Caen before returning from Bordeaux in 2017, so he’s been desperate to avoid relegation with a club so close to his heart.
Unfortunately, Guilbert has endured a difficult week or so. Caen co-manager Rolland Courbis told RMC Sport last week that Guilbert was involved in a training ground bust-up with teammate Faycal Fajr.
Courbis played it down, simply suggesting that the pair wanted to win so much that it just went slightly overboard, but it was nothing out of the ordinary for any football club.
Guilbert and Fajr were both kept in the starting line-up to face Bordeaux on Friday, but a 1-0 home defeat means Caen have suffered relegation to Ligue 2.
Right back Guilbert was distraught at full time, as his season ending in heartache and an emotional exit from Caen – so he’ll understandably hope that Villa can give him a boost with promotion tomorrow.
