According to The Sun, Aston Villa are going to attempt to sign West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jake Livermore in the summer.

The Baggies look set to drop out of the Premier League, and Villa are now wishing to raid their Midlands rivals, if they are promoted.

The claret and blues look likely to claim a play off spot this season, and if they win the promotion deciding fixtures, then Livermore will be on their wishlist.

And when reading Bruce’s past comments on Livermore it is, perhaps, not a surprise to see Villa linked.

Bruce managed Livermore back in 2015, when he was in charge of Hull City.

And Bruce spoke very highly of Livermore’s desire and energy in training.

“He was two players today. He was committed, he tackled, he was ferocious in what he did and he’s passed it well and got a goal,” Bruce said to BBC Sport.

“He’s only learning his trade with us and he’s still got a lot in his tank.

“The one thing about Jake is he wants to be a player. He wants to be a footballer and he has responded well to being given the (captain’s) armband.”

If Livermore was signed by Villa it would hardly be a unanimous popular addition to Bruce’s squad.

Livermore has struggled at West Brom this season, and Villa fans may feel they need better than the England international, if they are promoted.
