Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce should have gone for John Terry over Yannick Bolasie

Aston Villa haven’t had the funds available to sign both John Terry and Yannick Bolasie.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa missed out on signing John Terry because they went for Yannick Bolasie instead, and that may turn out to be an error.

Villa couldn’t afford to offer Terry a big contract, as they are reportedly paying Bolasie’s full £70,000-a-week wage.

And Steve Bruce may well have made an error by going for Bolasie over Terry.

There is no question that Bolasie is a major weapon at Championship level when fully fit, but Villa already have a strong attack.

The claret and blues have Anwar El-Ghazi, Jack Grealish, Albert Adomah, Jonathan Kodjia who can all play out wide.

They also had Andre Green, who looked very promising before Bruce decided to loan him out.

However, in defence, Villa’s options are so short that they have been required to play Mile Jedinak at centre-back.

Terry’s partnership with James Chester was so solid last term, but Villa have been far from reliable at the back this time around.

And Bruce may be regretting bringing Bolasie in now, as Terry could have proven a more important player.
