Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has told the Express and Star that he found being hit by a cabbage ‘hugely disrespectful’.

An angry Villa fan threw a cabbage at Bruce during his side’s 3-3 draw with Preston North End.

And Bruce claimed that the incident was disappointing, on a night where chants were regularly sung against him from the stands.

He said: “To say it’s disappointing is an understatement for a club like this. Before we had even started.

“It sums up the society we are in at the moment. There’s no respect for anyone.

“I find the whole thing hugely disrespectful.”

The Villa crowd was certainly disgruntled last night, as tensions rise around Villa Park.

Songs singing for Bruce to be sacked were clearly audible in the stands, with the experience boss now under huge pressure.

Villa had actually taken a 2-0 lead against Preston, but they threw their advantage away.

Preston ended up coming back to make it 3-2, but the drama was not finished there.

Yannick Bolasie scored a late equaliser for Villa, and the claret and blues were then awarded a chance to win it from the spot.

However, Glenn Whelan fluffed his lines in the last minute, with Villa yet again failing to pick up a victory.
