Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Aston Villa ace.

Villa manager Steve Bruce reacts after a near miss during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Middlesbrough at Villa Park on September 12, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce spoke to reporters today, ahead of his side’s season opener at Hull City on Monday night, and provided an update on the future of Tottenham-linked Jack Grealish, insisting that the north London outfit are ‘nowhere near’ the midfielder’s valuation, as quoted by Sky Sports.

The 22-year-old is widely considered to be one of the most exciting young talents in the game, and Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bring him to Spurs this summer.

The problem is that Tottenham value Grealish at around £20 million, whilst Villa are demanding in excess of £30 million, so some form of common ground will have to be found, if he is to swap Villa Park for White Hart Lane this summer.

Bruce will obviously be desperate to keep hold of the young star, and when speaking to reporters today, he insisted that Tottenham are currently nowhere near signing the midfield ace, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“I don’t think we’ve had a formal bid. There’s been discussions and that’s been going on all summer. The one thing the owners have made pretty clear is that no-one is for sale. We don’t want to lose our best players, but they’re aware of course that everyone has their price. The best thing the owners have been able to do is not let anybody go on the cheap. So if someone wants to buy our players, they’re going to have to find a premium and make sure the owners are comfortable with it. We all know what football is, but at the moment Spurs haven’t got anywhere near what the owners want to consider – so there’s not a discussion to be had at the moment, because they’ve not got anywhere near the figure they demand.”

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is well renowned for being an expert negotiator, but it seems as though he might just have met his match this time, and if Tottenham truly want Grealish, that will probably have to pay over the odds for him.
